Metabolic Syndrome
Potential new client has been diagnosed by a Nutritionist with metabolic syndrome, has been through countless personal trainers and with no help towards her goals, also is now pre-diabetic, and very frustrated with her lack of results. Really looking for a trainer who has or currently has a client with this issue.. also cardio needs to be low impact, running causes hip pain so I’m sure there might be an issue there.
I agree with Janet. Great answer. Definitely get her to include her physician and get some recommendations/contraindications for her.
I would also suggest encouraging her to try aquatic exercise. This is a fantastic form of exercise for anyone. I have trained triathletes/football players to pre/post hab & arthritis clients in the water. I can make it therapuetic or the hardest workout you have ever done. Water is very forgiving while being very self limiting. (ie. The physical properties of water make it harder to hurt yourself accidentally.) Weightloss clients sometimes are reluctant to put on a swimsuit and go to the pool. But overcoming this is also very important in helping them move forward with body composition management. And the virtually zero gravity effect of water exercise will make it possible to do more with less stress on her body.
If you don’t have experience with aquatic exercise, you should do some CECs for it or even get a water cert. I do teach CECs for this, but I only teach in person and mostly here on the Big Island of Hawaii. I would be happy to direct you a bit, but getting some experience and personal instruction is very important in my opinion. (For everything we learn, in person presentations would be best. But isn’t always practical.) Feel free to contact me through my profile or go to my website www.hawaiifitnessacademy.com .
