Metabolic Syndrome
Potential new client has been diagnosed by a Nutritionist with metabolic syndrome, has been through countless personal trainers and with no help towards her goals, also is now pre-diabetic, and very frustrated with her lack of results. Really looking for a trainer who has or currently has a client with this issue.. also cardio needs to be low impact, running causes hip pain so I’m sure there might be an issue there.
Several of my clients have metabolic syndrome, but that is really not something that should be diagnosed by a nutritionist; she needs to be diagnosed by a physician. After she is cleared by a physician you and she need to set realistic goals together. Why has she not reached her goals in the past? Were they realistic and specific? If they were, then you need to search out the lack of results. Did she follow a valid nutritional plan? Did she workout on her own without the trainer? (If she saw a trainer 2-3 times a week she should have been doing something on her own as well). If running causes hip pain an elliptical or stationary bike can be valid cardio options. Assuming she has a decent fitness baseline (since she has seen many trainers) and if she has been cleared by her physician) 2-3 days a week of short HIIT can be helpful with metabolic syndrome. She can do that on any type of cardio equipment. Weight training also has great health benefits, especially for diabetics, so she should be lifting weights at least twice a week. Again, if she has good mechanics and a strong baseline, make sure the weights she lifts are heavy enough to benefit, she should not be doing light weights and numerous reps.
