Hi Neil,

I did my own web site, and it really was not all that difficult. I ended up paying $70 for the program WebPlus, and the domain and hosting costs were about $100 with Godaddy. If you are looking for a cheap designer, you may just as well do it yourself. And you can then update to your heart’s content and have even mastered an additional skill.

Alternatively, I would also suggest that you make good use of the profile here in IDEA FitnessConnect where you can put a lot of information about you. That can be seen by many, and it does not cost you anything at all.

Wish you good luck.

Hi Neil,

I agree with Karin. The cheapest way to design a web site is to do it yourself. There are many online wed design sites which you can use to build yours. At the moment I am building me second site and I use Moonfruit (www.moonfruit.com) and for the domain and hosting I use Godaddy. Currently I am using my profile here in IDEA for clients to see and to do networking.

Good luck with your search!

Harris

Hello Neil,
I posted an answer to a similar question asked last year here at IDEAFIT:

http://www.ideafit.com/answers/i-need-to-a-new-website-but-i-dont-have-a…

I used Sitecube in the past because it was “flash” capable, domain registerable and I was able to set up a store front to sell merchandise.
That said…if these features are not important to you, then I would use IDEAFIT as your website.

Reasons:

Its FREE!
Its functional and easy to navigate
You can make changes without any fees
You can send a monthly newsletter to your clients
Upload Videos
Upload Clients Success Stories
Link to your Twitter
Link to your Facebook
Post and answer questions
Upload your monthly schedule, classes and events in your calendar
Post all your locations/addresses where you teach and add a map
List all your certifications, rates and accomplishments
Start a blog
Receive Reviews and Comments from your clients
Monitor your sites “hits”…visits

Whew…did I leave out anything?

I shut down my website at the beginning of the year becasue of IDEAFIT.
I have had greater success and more site hits than my other personal website by using IDEAFIT.

Wishing You Great Success!
Michael

I agree with the other responses recommending that you might as well create the site yourself if cost is a serious concern. I feel that a cheap designer will often give you exactly what you pay for – a cheap looking website.

If you do end up making it on your own I encourage you to consider the following questions before deciding what service you’ll use for creating the site:

What are your goals for the site?
-Will it be used to only advertise your services or will you use it for more than that?
-Do you plan to provide content through it like blog posts, white papers, links to articles, product reviews, etc.?

How “tech savvy” do you consider yourself to be?
-Do you want to simply “fill in the boxes” of a template that limits your design options or do you want to have more control over that?
-Do you know or are you willing to learn simple CSS and/or HTML5 code to have more control of the overall look/design and feel of your site?

There’s plenty more to consider beyond these questions but they should hopefully get you started with thinking deeper on the subject.

Another idea would be to see if you could find a local web designer who would be willing to “trade services” with you (AKA you provide them personal training in exchange for the work they do on your website). Would this be a viable option for you?

Let me know if you need me to clarify anything above. Best of luck to you making the most out of your eventual website either way!

Hello Neil Rausch,

Welcome to the personal training field; I am glad you are home safely from your two tours. I hope you remain safe and healthy.

I like IDEA for the free services and wonderful forum that I learn so much from. How could you go wrong with filling out your IDEA page?
If you still want something more; have you spoken with successful business owners in your area who you respect?

Take care.
