Just starting out and would like to know how to get clients? Groupon not working.
I’m renting space at a Fit Body Boot Camp that just opened. I want to teach boxing to people who need to lose 50 pounds or more. We are both struggling to find clients. She has done everything Fit Body has told her and not much has happened. I’m using Groupon and want to target Weight Watchers if they let me. Any ideas on how to get more clients?
Hi Mary Ann,
I peeked at your profile but cannot tell where you are located or what your current offerings are….
Boxing can be a great, and specific, niche for people wanting to do something in addition to traditional bootcamp workouts. Can you expand your focus to include those who are not more than 50 pounds overweight? I think you may be narrowing your efforts too much at this point if you are just trying to get them in the door to try it. You could try rhe following ideas to help you get started:
–Offer a free class/Open house for free trial
–Offer a starter package special
–Bring a friend for free
–Social media such as your own website, FB, Instagram, etc…
–Tell all of your friends and family
–Make health connections in your city and pass out business cards when applicable
–Think about what you can offer that others cannot and make it your niche
Often times it is word of mouth that gets people to try something, so referrals are important. There is tremendous competition these days with regard to fitness facilities and classes, so make sure you have a solid plan and offer something that is not easily accessible elsewhere. I hope it works out for you–I am a big fan of boxing. 🙂
Best of luck to you,
Christine
Christine,
Thank you for responding to my question. I live in Ohio and I need to finish filling out my profile. I had generic stuff listed but now that I have the business I need to update it. I do offer classes right now for anyone and the first class is free. I had an open house and a couple friends showed up and some of the Boot Camp clients did too. Only 2 of them have stuck around. There is a drop in fee or there are package deals depending on if they just want my classes or both mine and the boot camp classes. I have a Facebook page and I’m using Groupon. I struggle with weight issues which in my heart are the people I need to help because I understand how hard it is to lose weight. I want to have private classes for them so they feel comfortable with people who also struggle and I know not to have them do things that they physically can’t do. I want them to have fun and just start moving which maybe a lot for some of them.
I love boxing too! If I could do it 24 x 7 I would but I’m sure my body would get mad at me at some point.
I’ll work on making health connections in the city and passing out business cards.
Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it!
This is a very small window of opportunity for you.
I would suspect that people needing to lose 50 pounds or more probably won’t want to do it by boxing.
Weight loss has to do with food intake primarily.
Re think your business model. There a limitless ways to get people in to workout. Offer total body workouts and beginning workouts.
People who are overweight can be intimidated to come into a gym.
Also: Groupon is not something I would suggest, in the end it’s really hard to up your prices: I feel it’s de values services
Hello Mary Ann Bianchini,
Congratulations and welcome to the allied health industry; you are an asset with your background.
Fixing PCs is also very appreciated and helpful; but, it sounds as if training is your true calling.
Keep trying, do your best, have faith and the rest will fall into place.
You could try joining a business group which would help the word of mouth spread quicker. Try to wear your professional attire everywhere so people know what you do, and keep passing out those business cards.
You could also look into www.SCORE.org for free seminars run by retired entrepreneurs.
Most importantly, if this is what you believe in, don’t give up.
Good luck to you,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.
