ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (Assistant Director – Fitness and Wellness) University Recreation Louisiana State University
Program Supervision: Oversee the planning and administration of group exercise programming, fitness certification workshops, and instructional programming; Oversee the training and development of staff; Coordinate and administer personal training and conditioning, small group training, and fitness assessments; Establish and execute an annual special events calendar; Develop and implement accurate written records (program manuals, policies/procedures, etc.); Develop learning outcomes and conduct annual assessments; Prepare and submit monthly and annual statistical reports; Build working relationships and collaborative programs with campus departments to foster student involvement in university programs; Assist with employee wellness efforts.
Personnel Supervision and Training: Supervise, mentor, and provide professional development to the Fitness leadership team: Coordinators(2)- Fitness and Wellness; Graduate Assistant- Fitness and Wellness; Oversee the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation process for Fitness and Wellness Personal Trainers; Administer and implement monthly in-service trainings for employees; Recommend personnel for advancement, raises, rehire, and/or dismissal; Monitor and submit all payroll reports.
Fiscal Management: Develop annual operating budget; Determine and recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for program operations; Coordinate, establish, and recommend for approval all fees pertaining to program participation; Monitor and maintain a sound fiscal operational budget; Research grant opportunities for the implementation of faculty and staff wellness programs.
Asset Management: Oversee that all weight room equipment is safe, clean, and usable; Manage inventory control to prevent equipment loss; Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Operations preventative for maintenance, repairs, security issues, and improvements.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field; four years full-time experience working in a fitness environment, with particular emphasis in university recreation. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field; ACSM Instructor certification; group exercise and personal training certifications. Special Requirements: Ability to work flexible hours.
