Check out Mobility WOD. Just google it and click on the website. A physical therapist named Kelly Starrett has tons of videos on stretches and exercises for all kinds of ailments. I am sure you can find a bicep tendonitis video. I have used plenty of stretches and exercises on myself and my clients with great results. I use to not be able to do dumbell shoulder presses and now can perform clean and jerks and snatches with no problem in part thanks to Kelly.
I had bicep tendonitis a few years ago, so I know how painful it can be and how it can keep you from doing the things you like to do. Like everyone mentioned, I recovered well after visiting a physical therapist for a course of therapy. It was probably a combination of rest, the modalities that they are able to use to heal that area, and the exercises they gave me. I will say that I did a lot of scapular/shoulder stabilization work (like shoulder retraction with a band) to improve my posture and alignment. I think that was valuable because I have never had a reoccurrence. I hope you get well soon.
I am surprised that the doctor did not hand you a referral to a physical therapist.
What I recommend to my clients – pending the PT evaluation – is ice, NO chest exercises and some internal and external rotation exercises for the rotator cuff.
