Is this IDEA answer section turning into self promotion?
IDEA is one way of promoting yourself. You need a lot more than just answering questions here in order to do promotion of your business. A good web site, good logical and well explained answers, interaction with other professionals are few of the requirements. I agree with Joanne’s answer that there is nothing wrong using this site to do a little promotion. There is little to add to her answer.

Harris
Hi Danielle,
I like Debbie Russell’s answer. I think self promotion is a good thing and helps us grow our business. “IDEA Answers” gives us this platform to do just that. The Answers Leaders Board should be reset every month, this would reduce the number of “one or two sentence” answers given. In turn, it would benefit all users with meaningful responses and not answers to keep one’s status on the Answers Leaders Board.
New IDEA Fitness Connect members join daily without a chance to ever be ranked on the leader board without giving those “one or two sentence” answers to hopefully achieve a high ranking.
Is self-promotion a bad thing? We do it all the time in the way we conduct ourselves, market our business, treat people, etc…This IDEA platform, by its nature, will highlight certain people for how they’ve communicated their ideas in print (the volume, content, and tone of input). To me, the only thing wrong with self-promotion is when the self you’re promoting is not honest, ethical, professional, kind, or in general a good and decent human being.
I agree with Karin about getting a better grasp of the concepts. IDEA recently asked me about my experiences with Answers and Connect and even though I haven’t gotten a client directly from the site, being able to connect with you all and talk about issues has been the most beneficial for me. It has allowed me to be a better and more knowledgeable trainer and instructor. Also, when I find a thread that might be helpful to others I use the buttons on the side to do client share, twitter, and/or facebook.
