is there a way to live in isolation in this world?
Hi Amaka
I have to concur with Karin you can find inner peace within you. As a credentialled life coach I have learned there exists stages in personal development. Many of us, me included, spend alot of time in the restorative stage, trying to make sense of the world, and find our place in it. This is normal and natural. When we are ready to further explore our self, we may learn about what we value and need, how to set boundaries, and raise our standards. As we grow, we move to higher levels where we are internally motivated, responsible, and have established a reserve in all that we need. We may bound back and forth from one stage to the other. This is personal development.
Healing from the woes of the world means you are sensitive and tuned- in.
The world is as it is, and the only thing we can do to protect ourselves from the disquiet is set strong boundaries, or accept it all, as Buddha and Gandhi.
Always remember that you a part of the greater whole, we would be less whole without you, and that you, my friend, are a unique gift and have your own unique contribution.

Karin’s right. We’re social creatures. Like it or not, life is easier with others to interact with. Life gets tough, but it’s no reason to run and hide. You’re not alone even when you’re alone. There are always others worse off or in the exact same position as you are. Trust in the fact that there are still people out there who genuinely care about others. I’d be willing to bet that a few of those people are the ones who have taken the time to answer this question. =) Believe in the good in people, and show others the good in within yourself.
I believe that a lonely place in today’s world is not a matter of geography but of finding such peaceful place in the inner world.
It is true that we are surrounded by a lot of news and information about things that are difficult to bear. But we have it under our control how much of that reaches us. All electronic devices have an ‘OFF’ button, and it is entirely possible to remove yourself from those influences if you choose. The same is true in conversation with others. If a subject is discussed that you prefer not to hear about, you can ask that the subject be changed or else just walk away. In all probablilty, people will accuse you of living in denial but that is perfectly okay; they certainly may have their opinion as much as you have yours.
Far-away islands or caves are not a realistec refuge to get away from it all. Man is a social animal and depends on others for functioning, particularly in today’s world. You cannot control others but you have complete control over your own reaction to things. This takes practice but is the best way to ‘get away’.
