Yes, one can definitely live in isolation in our world; for all our electronic connections a lot of people are sadly disconnected physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually.
What’s a “lonely” place? Within one’s self, perhaps? There is an important distinction between being alone and being lonely; the former can be very satisfying and restorative while the latter is usually not a positive experience.
I think you might enjoy visiting a retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh. He has three monasteries that you can visit or stay and live the monk or nun life. They are in CA, NY and MS! Yep, Mississippi! It is quite a remarkable experience. Being there will help you find that quiet center inside. If you can’t get away, I suggest you find a Qigong or Tai Chi teacher.
