Is there a gym where people could bring their own purchased workout videos and use them?
People may be able to pay the cost of a simple membership but not a trainer, also classes are at certain times, they may not have the space in their own home to workout to the video. Why couldn’t they bring the video to the gym, ultimately renting “space”. Could have multiple TV set ups, wireless headsets so different videos can play at the same time.
I was wondering about the liability, but if you are basically providing the area and a viewing tool I think it would be minimal. I am sure instructors would not appreciate the idea, but it may also give them another venue. Lets say they do a class that some people may not be able to make. It could be taped and viewed at a later date for a fee. Now that is an extension of my idea that would have more liability. I think there are a few ways this could work. Trainers could have personal libraries accessible to clients. Again I have no idea what the liability issues are for this. Does anyone have a comment on that?
Hi Lisa,
How big is your space? How many TV’s can you install and how many people can you accommodate at any given moment? Liability could be an issue, but I think space could also limit you as to how many people can use that equipment. They will have to share the space with other customers as well who don’t want to do any of those workouts.
Hello Lisa Bodie,
I feel your pain and hear/understand your concern. That is why I customize workouts for the clients according to their resources, in this case.
Maybe you could talk to the gym owners about your concerns to get a group trainer to watch your video and design a class for you. The hard part is the time frame you need. Maybe you could get a group of people to sign a request/petition to make it a viable option for the gym owner to accommodate your request for a time slot, or other ideas.
Have you looked into the gyms that are open 24 hours with access by a member key? That may be the immediate answer until you find something better.
How about jump rope without the jump rope? Do you have room to do push ups, sit ups, etc? These are just a few ideas; you must only do what a doctor approves of for your personal health.
Good luck on your quest for better health.
Take care.
Hi Lisa,
I read your reply to Michael, and the thing that struck me is the question of intellectual property. If you video one of your instructors, how is it protected for their sake?
I do not want to be discouraging but I can see a number of issues that would require resolution. At least you would need to talk this through with a lawyer.
