Is there a gym where people could bring their own purchased workout videos and use them?
People may be able to pay the cost of a simple membership but not a trainer, also classes are at certain times, they may not have the space in their own home to workout to the video. Why couldn’t they bring the video to the gym, ultimately renting “space”. Could have multiple TV set ups, wireless headsets so different videos can play at the same time.
You bought some videos and want to pay a gym to go to use it? Why not pay a local, qualified, and actually present at your workout personal trainer?
Then your fitness dollars would stay in your community. This will help keep fitness instructors in your community for everyone to have access to using. And you won’t just throw the instructor on some dusty shelf to never help anyone again. Which is probably the fate of your video. Have you used that video lately?
I like your style in critical thinking. I have repeatedly received information from various sources that is a breakthrough between other questionnaire tools.

Hi Lisa,
Some things have been stated already, but I want to put my two cents in…
The main issue is taking business away from trainers and instructors. I say that as a business owner and trainer/instructor myself. You are taking money away from the facility AND the staff. It’s of no benefit to anyone but the participants, and quite frankly, that’s no way to run a business. And if they are going to charge you for it, they might as well schedule an instructor.
Liability can often be compensated by a well structured waiver, but still a big concern for a facility. They may need to have someone assigned to monitoring the DVD class, which in that case, they might as well just pay someone to lead the class.
A lot of facilities don’t have roll-away televisions to set up in GEX rooms, and would rather not lend out their A/V equipment to members. And again, we go back to: why rent out the space when paying an instructor only costs $20-30 and we can make money off GEX passes.
And as a professional with the credentials, I despise the DVD coaches. Very few are qualified to do what they do. A DVD coach can’t correct poor form or technique.
In short, there is no benefit to the facility. And renting the space is far more expensive then getting into a class.
If you can’t make their schedule work, talk to others and make a suggestion to the facility. Some facilities will host classes as long as they always have 5 or 6 in the class to cover cost of the instructor.

Hi Lisa,
I read your reply to Michael, and the thing that struck me is the question of intellectual property. If you video one of your instructors, how is it protected for their sake?
I do not want to be discouraging but I can see a number of issues that would require resolution. At least you would need to talk this through with a lawyer.
