Is it best to stretch prior to a workout or after a workout?

Stretching is interesting to me. Yes it may increase flexibility but our muscles need to be taut to the joint in order to keep their integrity.
The rules about stretching have yo yo’d back and forth throughout the years.
I don’t advocate stretching much, I love it personally and I do use it when I deem it necessary, and when I do stretch it’s always with used, warmed up muscles, no bouncing, holding for about 30 seconds.
