Is anyone getting client questions about glycemic index and weight loss?
Ji Jessica,
it depends in which context this question is asked. There are some diets out there for weight loss which use glycemic index as a recommendation for which foods to eat. For an evaluation of such a diet, I usually refer to a good internet source like this one: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/glycemic-index-diet/MY00770
If the question comes in the context of diabetes treatment, I refer to the medical health care provider.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jessica. I too have NOT received any questions from clients regarding this. I agree with Natalie that the ChooseMyPlate site is a good source of general dietary information.

Yes it’s a very common question.
I stay within my scope of practice and will explain in very general terms the effects of high glycemic food sources and encourage my clients to eat “real foods”- nothing out of a box and to pay attention to their nutritional intake. I also suggest that they meet with a nutritionist and work on a plan together.
Hello Jessica,
I have not, yet. When I do, I will stress the importance of a balanced, healthy diet of real food, not packaged and/or over processed food.
The doctor and nutritionist are the best resources; then, check out www.ChooseMyPlate.gov.
Take care.
