Is anyone getting client questions about glycemic index and weight loss?
Hello,
No, no questions recently on glycemic index but I urge those realistically looking to learn about food value should invest some time in making themselves @ least comfortable w/ the topic in weight management.

To take your own definitive stance…research, collaborate/validate research, research again, form an opinion. Good subject, investigation worthy.
1.search topic
2.validate sources (MANY out there, some may conflict(+/- to you)
3. comparative analysis(volume) pro/non
Careful though a conversation could be construed as advice. There are regulations & a process to “practice.”
The glycemic index is based on a glucose response to a single food ingested by itself. It does not account for the fact that most foods are eaten in combination with other foods. When eaten in combintion the glycemic index for a given food is of little consequence because of the modifying effects of the other foods. The ADA’s food guide pyramid is, in my opinion, a great fundamental guideline for daily food intake. It’s not magic, it’s just eating sensibly most of the time.
Take care.
Yes, I get plenty of questions, however, it’s within my scope of practice.
I work with individuals who are diabetic and am working towards my certified diabetes educator credential so it is part and parcel of my duties.
However, there are many resources that you can direct your clients to so that they can learn more about the glycemic index.
Best.
Hello Jessica,
The majority of my clients have not bring up this topic. If they do, I would recommend the following site:

I agree with Karin (above). Unless you are a certified dietician, we are allowed to give general guidelines. A doctor or certified nutritionist can “Tell them” what to eat specifically.
However, I have worked with several clients that are”Pre-diabetic” and they have found great results with a rigorously tested and supported shake. in addition to exercise & working with their Doctor/nutritionist.
