Initial Consultation
Hi. I run small group fitness classes. My classes are known for providing great workouts but I think I need to emphasize more the goal setting/tracking aspect of the training. I currently offer a free trial class to try out my gym. I was thinking of converting that free class into an initial consultation session or at least requiring an initial consult to become a full member. I am concerned thought that initial consult will appear as a barrier for people who really like my classes and want to get started “today”. What are your opinions? Am I overthinking this?
I try to get the group fitness participants to do a “check in”. When I have a new participant join one of my classes, I make a brief statement toward the end of the class for new participants to try and stick around to speak with me briefly. Most do and I explain to them that having a one on one chat about their goals and health status is very important. I don’t pressure them. I ask once and then do the end of class message a few more times to keep it in their minds. I get a pretty good number of takers on the “check in” and I don’t do it for free.
