In your opinion, what is the best resource/cert for sports nutrition and weight loss?
What has your experience been with Nutrition/Sports Nutrition Certs? From what I have seen, the certs simply combine a bunch of readily available information, package it as knowledge and sell it to you wrapped in a piece of paper you can hang on your wall.
I looking forward to hearing people’s reviews and experience! Thank you very much for taking the time to respond!
Hi DJ,
you are correct in your perception that it is readily available information. I have the NASM FNS which is based on a nutrition textbook, adds online material and then tests your knowledge. Their Weight Loss and Behavior Change certifications are created by NASM and also add extensive online material. True, now I have some papers that I could hang on the wall if I so choose to.
All of them are withing my scope of a personal trainer, and if I wanted to go beyond it, I would need to pursue a nutrition and counselling degree which I do not want to do.
What those pieces of paper demonstrate, though, is that I have taken the time to study sufficiently that I passed the test. Can you acquire the same knowledge without? Absolutely. However, if I am marketing myself as being able to assist people in a variety of ways, at least I have proof that I have studied the subject matter.
