A great question Joanne! Exercise as “medicine” has been researched and reported on since the beginning of time (ok, maybe not that long), and there seems to be little doubt of the healthy effects of exercise on the body. But I also see and use exercise as a HUGE “medical” benefit to the client’s mind. I work with a lot of female athletes, and it never ceases to amaze me how when we work together on getting in better condition, on visualization and one improving their skills how their confidence level SOARS! Confidence in sports performance is everything! And when the athlete feels confident in her body she feels confident in her performance – GREAT MEDICINE!
But this works not only in the athletic world! I have worked with many elderly clients or clients with health issues, and again it is so very rewarding to see their quality of life improve with their quality of strength and fitness. They feel better prepared to deal with their everyday tasks, and with that you can just see them improve their ability to handle the health and medical issues that they may be facing on a daily basis. I LOVE IT!!!
