Anywhere in the world with obesity being prevalent, there is a better than average chance that culture contributes. It has been found though, that the surge in processed foods and fast food in particular, has been one of the biggest contributors to high obesity rates in many population.

I also agree with the others. Culture plays a big part on the level of obesity among different ethnic groups, people from various states and even among different social and economical classes. As others have already suggested, there is a lot of research and information out there to look at and confirm this.

/Agree with above posts.

Obesity doesn’t just happen, there are often predictors based on a persons location- which influences what food they eat, how they eat it, peoples acceptance of certain foods and family predisposition.

Lived in Hawaii for a while and I feel confident in saying “YES, culture can play huge in obesity.” When being heavy seems an acceptable norm, its easy to not find a route from that path.

Yes culture can play a big role in obesity, no doubt about it. Individual states may have different cultural norms based on their environment, their politics, the societal values, social structures and genetic make ups. Norms play a big part in what is acceptable behavior and what is not. As obesity is mostly a preventable condition it is effected by societal norms.
