If you are an Independent Trainer, should you list a gym as an additional insured on your liability insurance?
I have my own insurance as a Trainer, however I’ve been asked by a gym to list them as “additional insured” if I work for them as a 1099. I’ve only worked for gyms as an employee and never had to list them on my insurance since they have their own. Don’t all gym have to have insurance themselves? (this is a franchise gym – not a mom/pop shop).
Hi Dennise. Ok, with my standard disclaimer that this should NOT be intended as legal advice, most, if not all gyms and studios that you work for as an independent contractor for will “ask” that you include them as an additional insured. It’s pretty much standard practice in our industry because in the instances of your work as an independent contractor, since you are NOT their employee, they don’t want to be left “uncovered” in case you do something that leads to a lawsuit against you as the trainer and them as the facility in which the injury occurred.
