I am starting to train other people mostly acquaintances. I’m looking to build credibility for my own business to do this full-time. I know the most valuable thing is my story that I lost a hundred and ten pounds eight years ago and I’ve kept it off. That’s actualay a mental thing mostly. My coaching will be mostly mental but I want the accreditation of being certified and having that going for me also. If I never intend to work at a gym which CPT is best? I looked into the Big 4 and it looks to me that in NCSM is the cheapest big name. As long as it’s the big 4 do you think it will serve my purposes? I’m getting all sorts of other training that apply to my work.
I would say NASM is the most recognized in the industry and would build the most value with your future clientele. They are the most expensive out of the big 4 but the recognition is worth it. Also they have alternative study materials available from www.fitnessmentors.com . I recommend the Audio Lectures.
You don’t want the cheapest. Sure you might not work for a facility but in today’s area of the educated consumer, you don’t want to be known as the bargain basement guy with the cheap cert. You went the extra mile with your personal story, go the extra mile for your career as well. NASM, NSCA, ACSM and ACE are all credible, but they’re different. Research them all and make a make a determination from there.
Hello Will Koen,
Congratulations. I suggest NCCA and the certification that speaks to you; forget about the cost. Remember that you will need to do CECs to keep your certification current. Here is a list to get you started.
