if i get hurt and cannot perform my job am i covered?
Hi Joleana,
that depends on the circumstances in which the accident occurs. If you are an employee at a club (you get a W-2), then you should be covered under workmen’s compensation. There should have been an incidence report detailing how and when the injury occurred.
This is regulated under state law, though, and you should check with your employer what processes they have in place.

It also depends if you have insurance that covers you for temporary disability or lengthy disability (permanent or otherwise). Most independent contractors and self employed business owners often skip this unless they have a business that has a high risk of injury. Liability insurance, that most Personal Trainers have, does not cover there own injuries. I hope that you are not injured. I wish anyone who is unfortunate enough to get injured, a speedy recovery.
Hi Joleana,
As others have said – it depends on many things. If you’re working at a facility as an employee, then you should be covered. If you are an Independent Contractor & have disability insurance, then again, you’re covered. But it starts to get complicated when you’re an IC who doesn’t carry disability/workman’s comp insurance & gets injured. If you’re not an employee anywhere, you may want to consult an Attorney who specializes in this area. Good luck Joleana.
