Ideas for short corporate talks
I’ve been engaged to do a few short (15-20) fitness and wellness talks to a corporate audience. They will be able to stand up with a little bit of room around them and to sit down in an office-type chair, so I’m limited on teaching a movement class other than gentle stretches. I’ve got my three topics planned, but I’m hoping that my first three will lead to more engagements. Can we work together here to come up with a list of topics that would spark ideas not just for me but for others? Thanks!
Here are some of the topics that I’m working on. I haven’t made the titles interesting yet, just fleshing out the concepts.
Seated stretches for neck, shoulders, torso
Mindful breathing and how to do it to relax and to revitalize
Simple standing stretches (people will be dressed up)
Mobilizing the foot and ankle
Mobilizing the hips (gentle, standing)
Mobilizing the upper spine and shoulders
Daytime energy ideas that don’t involve caffeine
Hi Nancy,
as of late, more and more has been written about the ills of prolonged sitting. This could be a subject as well, suggesting standing meetings, standing desks.
As a MELT instructor, I always talk about mobilization of the hands. This information is now widely available through the MELT Method book. A MELT hand demo is easy to do.
Good luck with your talks.

Hi Nancy,
When I had Groupon as my corporate client I did many lunch-in talks and presentations. One of the subjects they loved hearing about was knowing more about their surrounding outdoor areas and the type of activities and exercises they could do at these locations. Since the majority of my training is done outdoors, this was an easy subject for me to cover. I presented them with an extensive details and information about the various parks in the Chicago area as well as any other hidden places where they could get some great exercising. You might want to do something similar for your corporate client(s). I hope this helps.
Best,
Harris
Thank you, Karin and Harris, for the ideas.
I’m probably going to do a “tennis ball class,” which could include some of MELT-esque methodology along with my training in yoga therapy and myofascial release.
Harris, I really like your idea about researching local outdoor areas that could be easily accessed during a lunch break or after work.
Fitness for traveling sales and marketing teams (this company has a large percentage of its staff who spend time in their cars). I have all sorts of topics for them. The challenge will be to get them into the office to hear them…
I teach workplace exercise programs and start them off with core/spinal stability activation, foundation movements, and pelvic tilt exercises.
These are all essentials of daily living and important in all activities and postures. Your list includes some of these, especially your mobiilzing exercises.
I also teach about not sitting in the same position for extended periods, etc.
There is so much more and not enough time here. Or the ability to clarify.
