I would suggest the Personal Trainers Course offered but the World Instructor Trainers (W.I.T.S.) They are located in Virginia Beach, VA and have an excellent course taught by excellent instructors all over the United States.
It is a five week course, usually held two nights a week or over five consecutive weekends. All courses are three hours for each session.
5 sessions @ 3 hours each: Core Knowledge 15 hours
5 sessions @ 3 hours each: Practical Skills 15 hours
Exam: written and practical 3 hours
Internship 30 hours
The first day is lecture and covers all topics of personal training, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy, Cardio Respiratory systems, nutrition, exercise prescription, legal aspects of personal training. The second day is a Practical all hands on training in a gym setting. There are quizes each lesson culminating with a 100 point test and then a practical exam as well. The candidate must pass both written and practical exam, obtain CPR certification, and a personal training internship with a gym.
This is an outstanding program, and it is not simply a weekend with a test. I highly recommend this course. I know, because I am an Instructor with WITS and have taught this course since 1997, hooah!
