Yes, you will want to check with all localities for a license: state, local and country. You are very well educated; keep on working until you get your client base. I like the idea of trying for a gym position. There are gyms in other businesses, also, not only in fitness centers.

If you are going to work for yourself, having a liability insurance would be a very good idea (for many reasons). Have you thought about working as an employee at a local gym to start making some money? If you get hired by a gym then liability insurance would not that great of an issue. You have enough education credentials to qualify as a trainer.
