I used to be an ACE certified personal trainer group fitness instructor in the late ’90s.
I’m considering going back into personal training. I am aware that I have a lot of work ahead of me and wanted to know if I can get the pros and the cons of personal training in this time and economy. I would also like to know if there are any personal trainers and/or fitness experts where I can actually conduct informational interviews; also, are there networking opportunities and events for fitness professionals? I want to be able to make the best decision before plunging ahead into a “new” career. Thank you for your advice.
I would try contacting a personal trainer in your area and explaining your situation and questions to them, as you did to us here. Personal training can vary from place to place and what might be occuring in my location, may be different from your current location. I often mentor new trainers and help them get established or answer their questions.
I’d also review why I stopped working as a trainer before and evaluate if those things that caused me to stop, have changed. How will this time be different?
Then I might try going back a few hours at a time to see if its working for me. To test the waters as it might be.
You’ll know if its the right decision, because it will feel right to you and you’ll be eager to get started each day.
I wish you the best of luck!
