I used to be an ACE certified personal trainer group fitness instructor in the late ’90s.
I’m considering going back into personal training. I am aware that I have a lot of work ahead of me and wanted to know if I can get the pros and the cons of personal training in this time and economy. I would also like to know if there are any personal trainers and/or fitness experts where I can actually conduct informational interviews; also, are there networking opportunities and events for fitness professionals? I want to be able to make the best decision before plunging ahead into a “new” career. Thank you for your advice.
I’m not sure whether or not you’d like to share, but consider why you got out of the industry in the first place.
That being said, if you have another job, you might consider interning a couple hours a week at a smaller training facility. You will likely learn infinitely more than you would training people at the average gym. Who knows, it might even turn into a position in the near future.
There are also plenty of local conferences that are run by a variety of organizations. Take a look around on Google.
