I received my certification in Australia (cert iv in PT) through Onfit – can I bridge my qual to work in the US?
Below is the e-mail from my school stating that the US has bridged the Australian qualification in the past…. Could you please tell me what I need to do to be able to work in the US and have my Australian qualification recognized…. and to get insured as professional as well?
THanks
Hi Nancie,
I have spoken with our Education team and they have advised that there is a fitness association in the US called: I.D.E.A
http://www.ideafit.com/
Just for your own information, We have had other students successfully bridge their Australian qualifications and become insured through this company to work as a fitness professional in the United States so we are aware that it can be done.
Hope that helps Nancie, and best of luck in your future fitness endeavours!
Kind Regards,
Jo Bradley

IHRSA recommends that gyms only hire personal trainers who hold NCCA accredited certifications.
I am sure that your Australian credential is not accredited through the NCCA. Havng said that, there are American certifications that are not NCCA accredited that have value and where it is possible for the fitness instructor to purchase insurance. Too many of these fitness instructors who hold these credentials have not had difficulties finding work.
You just to be concerned with 1) whether the gym you want to work at will recognize your credential and 2) whether you will need to be able to secure insurance and that is possible quite easily (unfortunately) and 3) your working visa.
