I have been in a different career for the last 30 years and now have been a CPT for a year with 2 clients (still working full time at other job) I want to write a resume looking to get into corporate fitness or similiar but don’t even know where to start my resume since I have minimal experience. thanks,
I made the transition to personal training after 10 years in a corporate job. It seemed overwhelming at first, but its completely achievable.
Look at where your current position and your desired position overlap. What current skills do you already possess and are exhibiting in your current job that you would need for your desired position. List those under you job experience for your current job. Also be sure to list your experience with your 2 current clients. I even had my current clients write me a reference. Then you can include that with your resume.
I also listed all of my education and continuing education for both of my career fields. I also included a cover letter which explained why I made the career change and my passion for personal training. It also explained why my prior experience in a different field would benefit me as a trainer and my clients.
Good luck! Use all that prior experience to your advantage!
I agree with Jocelyn – look for skills that transfer. Customer service, people skills, being organized, problem solving, increasing revenue, raising money, etc. Also, look at the mission statements of companies you are applying to for cues on what they are looking for on your resume and cater it to that.
