I teach both regular Zumba and Zumba Toning formats. Some of my participants love Zumba Toning and some hate it! I think ZToning really appeals to people who love to dance and hate to do weight training but still want to take it up a notch from a regular Zumba class. It’s a nice transition for people from a straight dance based cardio class to a pure strength training class. Many of my participants will take my Zumba class and then Zumba Toning class back-to-back.
In my area (Cincinnati) there does not seem to be many instructors, so they are in high demand! It took a little bit for the original Zumba format to really heat up, so I think it’s just a matter of time before the Toning, Aqua and other formats really gain in popularity. I teach both Zumba and Zumba toning. I really like both, but some of my students only like one or the other. I think they work well together for a total body workout. I teach a Zumba toning class on the Wed. of my M/W/F session. I really focus more abs and make sure I get each muscle group. I also teach a Tues/Thur afteroon session and I add in 3 toning songs during my Thur class. Students know they can bring their sticks if they want, otherwise many do it without the sticks. This is because they requested a toning class, but I was unable to get the studio time.
I combing Zumba Toning into all of my classes. Every Instructor that works for me must be certified in both. We have the Toning section in the center of the class basically 4 songs. Tired it a few years ago and it stuck like glue. Most love the extra workout for their upper bodies and legs and the additional metabolic calories it burns!
