Any advice for a new certified personal trainer who is looking for a job?
Take the time to thoroughly fill out your profile on the IDEA Fitness Connect portal. Include as much information about yourself as possible. Make sure you list all your credentials, insurance, first aid credentials on your site so prospective employers know you meet industry standards.
After you’ve done that, use the resources on the Fitness Connect site, blog, join social networking groups like Linked In, Twitter, etc. As you search continue to learn, learn, learn.

Stop in to your local gym and ask to speak with the personal training manager. Go to several gyms. Do an information gathering interview. Write down the questions you want to have answered and go to the source, Ask for their professional advice. Everyone loves talking about themselves and what they love to do. Let them tell you everything you want to know. Maybe they are looking for you, if not now, perhaps later.

I would suggest using different resources online to locate jobs in your area. Craigslist is a great resource as well as Indeed. Do not restrict yourself to a certain geographical region as it may limit your success in locating a position. While you are in pursuit of a new job keep educating yourself as it will only benefit you in the long run!
I would suggest finding other fitness professionals in your area and pursuing them as a resource for more learning. Try interning with them or just coming along to some of their trainings (if they will have it). I love it when I meet new trainers who need to get started somewhere and if it’s possible to help them out then I am all for it.
