I have now been a trainer for almost 2 years and am still struggling to get clients. I need to start my own LLC but how?
I have been a trainer for 2 years now in August. I started off working for LA Fitness in Michigan where i live and the pay was horrible for having a bachelors degree first of all. I had great clientele, but left in search of another job with a different gym because the amount i was making was not enough to take care of my son. Now i am at Anytime Fitness where i absolutely hate where i train. I need to setup my own LLC but do not know how to even start that. Help on why Michigan is so bad with personal trainers making a living for themselves and just starting out?
You can also operate as a Sole Proprietor. I’d talk to a lawyer or go to the library for more resources about how to get started in your county/state. I learned a ton from NOLO’s Crash Course in Business Basics. Make sure you have liability insurance to protect yourself as well. Decide where and how you’re going to train your clients once you’re on your own. Are you going to clients’ homes? Opening up a new facility?
I agree with Jacqueline about the marketing as well. Meet as many people as possible in your community. Show them what you do and be enthusiastic about it. People need to like you and trust you before they sign up to train with you. Be professional and confident and carry that professionalism across the web, in your print materials, and in person.
Good luck! It’s hard work but you’ll enjoy the freedom of being in charge of what you want to do and how you run things.
go to your local county website and set up your LLC. it probably cost you $50 to $100.
Get a website, business card and start to join a marketing group, talk abut what you do and why you are doing what you do. Give each training session your 100% and be excited about what you do. Find your speciality and stick with it. Teach a class at a local parks and rec, provide mini seminars, even if it is for free and market yourself this way.
