I have been teaching indoor cycle class for almost 2 years. I like doing it. Feel like I need some more variety. Suggestions?
What did you end up selecting, Jeremy?
It’s been 2 years so you’ve probably moved onto another format, but if not, you might consider something that has more variety of movement in different planes, as cross-training for the movements typically done in cycle.
The bootcamp / circuit ideas are very good, as are the weight training ideas. Anything tri-planar, really.
Thank you for all of your input! Now the question is where do I get adequate training? I’ve taken a NETA course that was very basic. They did practically no setup or routine set up. This seems to be the problem with all continuing ed. I do massage therapy as well and it is always hard to find a credible continuing ed instructor.
I thought I might chime in on Susan’s comment on incorporating spin into a circuit style workout. I have taught spin for several years and have seen its popularity fluctuate, regulars come and go etc. About a year and a half ago, I started offering a spin circuit class and even my die-hard spinners love it. We incorporate spin plus strength training, ab workouts and sometimes some running too. The time flies by, people love the variety and I find my non-spinners will tolerate the bike for small chunks of time and my spinners enjoy adding some strength to the cycling. I do NOT do any strength work actually on the bike- we save it for the floor. It’s been a blast and has helped me not to burn out on the straight cycling. I love my short circuit workouts and I look forward to my longer spin rides.
