Hello Becky,
Nothing is stopping you from teaching Zumba however, I would get certified and insured to ensure if you hurt someone or someone get hurts while or after attending your services you have some pretection.
If you’re teaching at home, check your home owners liability insurance for adequate protection. When in doubt…check with an attorney and your local county, city and state business/teaching requirements.

I Hope This Helps!

Hi Becky,

as soon as you are compensated for any kind of instruction, you are conducting business. And if you call it Zumba without a license, you are infringing on that name.

However, nothing can stop you from getting together with friends and dance along just for the fun of it.

Have fun!

I agree with Karin. “Zumba” is a trademarked name, and teaching a class and calling it Zumba could land you in a bit of legal trouble. Here’s what the Zumba organization has on its website about it’s trademark and legal issues:

You need to have a license in order to call your classes Zumba.

If you’ve been teaching dance for 23 years, I personally think you don’t need the name Zumba. You are obviously talented, it appears you have a following. If you don’t have the Zumba license and want to teach something that involves latin dance, it appears you have that skill already and you’ve been successful at it.

What makes Zumba, Zumba is the atmosphere, and if you are able to teach an electric, motivating latin-based dance class adding the name Zumba to it won’t make it any better.

If you are excellent what you do, people will come, regardless of what you call it.

So any people who are not qualified or who attend weekend certifications then become over night trainers are in this industry as it is!!
Teach dance your own style
Call it something else!!
