I have to agree that coming to Hawaii is definitely fun. I swam with dolphins this morning after a short hard bike ride, 15 miles of some awesome hill climbs. This afternoon I will walk up to my studio to meet a couple of students and then do an upper body workout. Not a bad day.

Congratulations on your interest. From the answers you have a number of great sites to begin your education. That’s the first step. Go to Hawaii, could be fun!

Good luck.

Education is the way to become a professional in any field. I recommend anyone interested in becoming a fitness instructor look into ACE courses, ACSM courses, or any other NCCA accredited certifying organization. There are schools near many major population areas for this as well. I used to teach for a post secondary school for fitness instructors when I lived near Denver, CO.

I teach a complete course for fitness instructors (classroom/practical experience) now through my business in Hawaii. I also teach CECs for those already certified. The CECs are definitely a write off so why not come take a continuing education vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. The instructor course for preparing to get certified may also be, I never tried to get my first cert deducted off my taxes. Anyway, check out my website, www.hawaiifitnessacademy.com if you are interested.

I highly recommend getting certified with ACE if you indeed decide to pursue this as a career. I am a very new trainer myself and its definitely frustrating hearing constant no’s but sooner or later someone will say yes. It’s A LOT of work. I am glad I took time to figure out what I was getting myself into. I am at a private studio meaning it will probably be an even slower climb but it’s a non pressure situation where I am. I need that right now.
