I am looking to further my education in exercise. I applied to University of Texas at Tyler’s Online Kinesiology Masters program
Has anyone ever attended this program? It seems pretty legit to me. Also, can anyone give me any direction as far as careers go for kinesiology v.s. exercise physiology? I did my bachelors in physiology and think what I really want to be doing is exercise physiology. I feel like kinesiology is tied in very closely to exercise science/exercise physiology that I will be fine sticking to the program I am applying to. Anyone have any insight?
I am not very familiar with the program, so I will defer to others as far as that goes. If my memory serves me correctly, I thought that this program was delivered online, but you had to be “attending” the classes at the same times as the on-site students. So, you can’t just do the work on your own schedule. Don’t take my word for this and make sure you check it out.
Kinesiology and Exercise Science are often used interchangeably. Likewise with Exercise Physiology and Exercise Science. In the case of the program I graduated from, Kinesiology was the department that included Exercise Science, Athletic Training, etc.
For this reason, the question of careers in Kinesiology versus Exercise Physiology is a tough one because they are often a very similar degree, or one is a department that contains the other. You can likely find many sites that describe careers in these areas with a Google search, or even on this site.
All the best,
Steve
