I am interested in becoming a continuing education provider. Any suggestions on where to start?
I would like to offer continuing education courses for credit with ACE, ACSM, etc. Any suggestions on where to begin?
You can contact different certifying organizations and bevome a provider through them. Or you can create your own CECs and market them. In order to get approved provider status with any of the groups, you need to pay a fee. And usually an annual fee. Your CEC courses can still be used for renewal credits with the various groups like ACE, ACSM, etc. without being pre-approved, but the people taking your classes will have to file for the credits. That isn’t a big deal, but some people consider it a hassle. And others consider it an indication that the courses are less worthy/valuable. Which I find to usually not be the case in either scenario.
I teach CEC course periodically. It isn’t my main source of income, but it isn’t really for the money. And I will only travel if a group wants to pay a little extra for my expenses. Which is even less often. I do have the advantage of living and teaching in Hawaii, which has attracted a market wanting to vacation here, get CECs and be able to write at least some of it off on their taxes. If they do it right.
