I am getting ready to take the AFAA PT online multiple choice exam and then the practical exam. Any advice?
I was previously certified in cheap online personal training certification. It was terrible how easy it was. Since then I’ve realized the importance of having the right credentials and am getting certified online through AFAA. I would love some general advice about focal points. For example, do I really need to know the metabolic processes my heart? Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi Regan,
It’s great that you realize the importance of having the proper credentials for personal training.
My personal training certification was through ACE and not AFAA, but one thing that helped me prepare was to know how much of each subject would be on the exam. In the back of my manual, ACE broke it down by percentage of each area that was to be covered on the exam. Check to see if AFAA does the same thing as it can help you to go over and strengthen any areas where you may be weak.
Also, are there any practice tests that you can take? They may make you feel more comfortable in understanding the types of questions on the exam and how they will be worded. My suggestion is to make sure you understand the material and be able to translate it to real life situations (and not just regurgitate or memorize the information). In addition, sometimes you can find or create flash cards to help you study.
I hope some of these suggestions help you. Good luck on your exam and keep us posted!
