And if you are a fit pro who would remain anonymous yet like to vote this down again-please provide intelligent documentation/proof why one organization “overseeing” certifications is “better” than the other. Because voted down all day long it’s not the case that one is “better”. If so, colleges would not continue use curriculums overseen by DEAC!
Hello Jackie Brown,
Yes, you will benefit your clients with a personal trainer certification as well as take care of the liability issue on your end. You will be professional and able to handle the client’s needs personally; personal training. Group training is much broader; personal training goes deeper into details as already explained. There are overlaps which you will be able to use across your entire health and fitness service.

Africa? Cool! Which country? I’ve been to Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
If I understand correctly, you’re teaching the same thing that you teach to groups in group exercise, but you’re teaching it to just one person or to a very small group. That sounds like a very good plan. You’re teaching what you already know.
Thank you for your input I found that very helpful. Just to clarify I live in Africa so some situations very different from the first world and also I am not actually teaching them personal training as such I am literally teaching them a group sessions but only to one person which actually means I can correct form more easily, I don’t do assessments, or tailor exercises I just put classes together which are a combination of cardio and strength work, which is no different from the format I teach to a larger group. It’s just that some of these ladies are intimidated by exercising in front of others or can’t afford to go to a big gym and would prefer to work in their own homes. it is my aim however to get my PT qualification as soon as possible. Thanks again.
My other thought for you would be insurance. If you are at a gym, you’re probably covered. If you’re going to train at someone’s home or apartment complex, you should get insurance. In that case, I think you’d be very wise to get a personal training certification.
A thing to keep in mind at all times, whether you’re in group exercise or personal training or swimming lessons, or aerobic kite-flying, is scope of practice. Teach what you’ve been trained to teach, what you’ve prepared for, what you’ve thought about.
