And, not to dampen your enthusiasm, there are several things that would need to be true about any idea or product in order to get protection from copying or stealing.
The biggest one is that the idea or product has to be novel. If it is simply the combination of a number of existing parts, materials, or ideas, it won’t be seen as a defendable thing.
Also, if it is a way of exercising like let’s say Tai Bo or Spin, you only get to protect the name. Anyone can teach a martial arts style aerobics class or indoor cycling class. They just can’t call it by a trademarked name.
But the creators of Tai Bo and Spin have done very well regardless. So, if your idea is a work out class program, you still could do well in the fitness market. Though almost all of the trendy classes started out as an idea that become very popular in the place where the class orginated, before it went on to national/international success.
