This is something I would ask and RD. But IMO, dont nosh on junk food all day. Eat stuff with healthy fats and make sure you work out so you can convert anything you put on into muscle.

You know…her underweight may be her normal weight. Is there a health concern? If so, see a doctor and whoever they recommend. Otherwise, stick to a healthy lifestyle, eat a balanced diet, and get proper rest and exercise.
The danger pitfall may be comparing self to others.
If all is well and good, I agree with weight training, at 75% of 1RM, and having her speak to a registered dietitian.

If you don’t already have a registered dietician in your professional network, it is time that you did. Get in touch with RDs in your area and find one that will work with your clients on both weight loss and weight gain. Then you can have solid and recognized assistance in these areas. And you will most likely get referrals as well.
You could get some nutrition certification(s) if you want to become able to do more of this yourself.
