How to create a personal trainer resume for a newly certified personal trainer
Hi Beverly,
I just want to add a few pointers to LaRue’s comments: I am sure you got your personal trainer credentials because you have a passion for personal fitness, and in your case that should be on your resume as well. If you have participated in any sports (or still are), this is a skill set of importance to note.
I also read the introduction of yourself here at IDEA FitnessConnect. While I applaud your honesty in owning to your inexperience and willingness to learn, do not forget that this is a place where people go who look for a personal trainer. I would dwell a little more on what you DO know rather all that you still need to learn.
I wish you good luck.

Hi Beverly. Congratulations! In my opinion the best place to start would be to create a resume built around the ‘skills and knowledge’ required for a personal trainer, since you do not yet have the experience. Take a look at some job descriptions and even ACE’s information on Personal Training and then take a critical look at the skills and knowledge that you bring to the table. Relate any past work experience you have that might be used such as your communication skills etc.
Of course include your direct Personal Training education/certification and any experience you may have in training (even if it’s just your own training and gym experience), and lastly I would note your passion for the industry (assuming you have it 🙂 and willingness to continue to learn (a big plus in our industry).
I hope that this helps you somewhat. Good luck and please feel free to contact me directly if you have any specific questions or need further help – I’m always glad to help.
