how to correct hard landing when running

A shorter stride should help and try landing on the ball of the foot instead of a longer stride with heel strike. The anterior tibialis could also be weak.
You are lucky to be able to enjoy runs with your sister. By the way, I have much to learn, also; that’s why I love this forum.
