You want to do the math and be sure you come home with the hourly rate you deserve, not what you think someone is willing to pay. Add your expenses, including time and travel, don’t forget your rate, then divide it by the group number. You are offering many extras on the side and do not want to be taken advantage of easily. This will also help people see you as the true professional you are in the fitness industry.

Whatever you charge make sure it’s a little more than you think. The most common mistake is to charge too little. I was a business consultant for 15 years before becoming a full-time yoga teacher and one of the biggest mistakes a small business could make was under-charging for their products and services. It’s easier to come down in price.
You can also charge more when you add extras such as your “online group page on FB to offer daily support”.
Other extras that could help you increase the price include:
* Offer individual Skype training sessions
* Record the individual Skype training sessions and give to the Client
* Write a lesson plan (or create one using MS Word)
* Turn the lesson plan into a video and upload to YouTube (email the link to your Clients)
* Convert the video into an audio and send your Clients an MP3 file (listen on their phones)
There are a million different “extras” you could dream up. The more extras you offer, the more you can charge. I recently sold my motorhome on eBay for ┬ú2,000 more than it was worth because I offered several extras with it that only cost me approximately ┬ú100. It’s amazing how much extra you can charge when you have a bunch of eye-catching extras to entice your Clients or Prospects.

For me there are two ways to look at this.
Way number one, if I need clients, I go with a very reasonable rate of $10 each per session. Each client pays for “x” number of sessions up front. Missed sessions are lost sessions. It is an excellent price point, no bending over backwards to make up sessions. Sessions could be rescheduled 48 hours in advance. The great price will give them a second reason to recommend you. The first reason will be that you are a great trainer, who makes working out fun. In this situation I would also schedule the sessions to make the clients happier. I am building a clientel. I can control scheduling more when I have a strong business.
Way number two, I don’t really need more clients. I go with $20 – $25 per cient per session, same set up. But maybe I cut the reschedule to 24 hours in advance. If I don’t need more clients, I kind of like the occasional dropped session so I can have some extra family or me time. In this scenario, I schedule the sessions at the start or end of my schedule for the days of the sessions. No prime time for a group unless it is agreed that there is no refund/reschedule. Groups this size reschedule more than private sessions and duos/trios.
Although it really depends on how much money you want to make I will have to agree with the others. Usually the market, your travel expenses/costs and time will dictate this number. 6 people are a good number for you to make some good money and also for them because the overall cost will be divided in 6 parts….which means a great deal for them.
It does really depend on a few things… One, the market in your area of NY. I would do a search of Olean and surrounding cities to see what the group rate is going for around you.
With 6 people, you are really doing small group fitness training
–and it also depends on where you will be training them.
Two, can you be more specific about what you are offering in the way of weight loss training? What kind of “support” will they receive online and it this part of the cost for them? Is it a specific program or more motivational support for them? Just trying to get down to facts for total cost. 🙂
