How much do you charge for on-line training?
And yes I konw this position on the topic of online training will make me unpopular with many fitness pros. Sometimes doing the right thing and/or simple stating your convictions can make you a target of those who want to make a profit in this world. But being silent also makes you at least partially guilty when someone else is harmed while you were playing it safe.
I personally do not like the trend of online fitness instruction. But I hope that anyone who is doing online training, has at a minimum, established what to do in an emergency situation (heart attack, injury, etc.). Since you are not there, what happens if there is an emergency? Seconds count in such situations. Literally this could be the difference between life and death. Yes the risk is low, but the incidence of a life threatening emergency is possibly even greater for someone during online training than in a gym. So it will happen eventually. I am not willing to take that risk without beingt there personally to administer CPR and First Aid if needed until EMS personel arrive. It is a big gamble and if it happens just once out of a million times, it is not worth someone’s life to make a dollar.
Good question! I have a client who is moving out of state in 2 months. She is hoping to work together on Skype. More for a quick check in on her progress than for trying to watch her exercise and coach. I was thinking of charging the same fee that I typically charge. She’s still buying my brain and my time.
I hope others will weigh in.
Hi Janice,
You mentioned teaching a class (and not personal training), so you could charge an individual fee for each person to take the class. I would charge slightly less per person than if you had to travel, transport equipment, or pay an additional room or gym fee to teach the class. Since you don’t have to do any of that, charging slightly less per person makes sense.
Hope this helps.
Christine
