How much are Group Exercise Instructors making per class?
They pay of a group fitness instructor should be dependent on number of students you attract to their class. If you are a great instructor then you are an asset to the club and you should be compensated more.
At www.FriendsBFit.com we keep a very small % of the revenue earned thus if you have 20 students per class and you charge $10 per class you will take more more than $150..
How do we do this, we are an online gym where we have built the technology where you can conduct a live group fitness class right from your home, so there is no commuting. also you can have clients from all over the US. Contact me if you are interested at [email protected]
When I managed a studio the starting rate was $35 per hour and up
Because I was also a group exercise leader, I knew the value of a good teacher and what they would bring to the studio.
I know it was on the high end but retention was also high
Like most teachers, this is a very underpaid position!
It depends if you are independent or working for a corporation. It will vary. If you are independent, then your potential income is unlimited. However, take that with a grain of salt, as you are fully responsible for your own clients and class attendance, which may vary depending on your reputation in your local community. You may also be responsible for gym rental expenses as an independent.
If you are working for a fitness corporation or gym owner, then you will more than likely be capped at a certain $ amount. The corporation takes a percentage of revenue of the classes as a profit (that is usually very much in their favor) and then obviously has to pay the government a percentage for taxes. After that, you receive your net income. Unless you work as a contractor, then you have to keep track of your own taxes.
At higher end clubs, which is where I use to work, you could probably expect anywhere from $30-$75 per hour.
This was just from my experiences working as a bootcamp instructor in different clubs and various locations.
Hope this helps!
