How many of you Personal Trainers out there can see yourself doing this job for the rest of your life?
LOL, I answered this question 5 years ago. The formats I teach today are a bit different than they were 5 years ago as I’ve narrowed that niche, exactly as I predicted. But my answer is pretty much the same as it was 5 years ago. My hours will cut back (currently 15-20) and I’ll only teach the things and people that bring me the most joy.
I will probably teach for free all of the time when I retire. (As opposed to the handful of free/volunteer things I do now.) Or I will keep teaching and do more in my community with the money. It will probably be a little of both. Huh, kind of like it is now. Maybe I am retired and just don’t know it.
The more time I spend in the fitness field, and the more I narrow into the niches where I am most effective and joyful (I can’t do everything, and I don’t like everything), the more deeply satisfying it becomes for me.
I’m a little more than 23 years into fitness. Although the number of hours per week has varied from 2 to 30 and will likely fluctuate in the future, I can’t imagine ever fully leaving the industry.
