How many fitness instructors are in the US in 2012, 2013, 2014?

Hi Kristin,

I am not sure you will get some numbers here. I have never seen any such statistics. You may be able to extrapolate based on IHRSA data of number of health clubs http://www.ihrsa.org/about-the-industry/ but that does not count the studios and those who freelance.

The answer is … not enough. But we are working on improving it. Everyone should be exercising and everyone that doesn’t know how to exercise properly, including intensity, duration, frequency, etc., should have an instructor. Dream of the future and dream big people.

I would also like to add to the other suggestions that they are divided in categories as well:

-Full-time
-Part-timers
-Contractors

In order to be clear about how you define “fitness instructors,” you might also group into things like:

Personal trainers
Small group training
Group exercise (i.e. kickbox, Zumba, Les Mills)
