Do you have them keep a food log for only 2 weeks and then every few months for clients you train long-term? Do you only have them keep a food log once? Do you have them keep a food log indefinitely?
For many clients sustaining the motivation to keep an ACCURATE and COMPLETE record of ALL food and fluid intake for more than 4-7 days is quite difficult. I think that it takes a minimum of 4 days of recording to get a reasonably accurate ‘picture’ of a client’s dietary habits.
It’s up to the client. Some of them keep a food diary/log for a few days while others stay one them for a much longer period. Most of those who keep a food diary usually stop using it after only few days and they might come back to it from time to time if they need to get back on track.
I like to encourage at least a week or two of food logging which usually is enough time for the client to start being more aware naturally of the potions and choices. Then I have them do it for a few days whenever they need to get back on track life after a vacation.
