I’m thinking of adding an addition certification to my creditials. I’d like to further my knowledge base in the area of nutrition and thought ACE’s Lifestyle and Weight Management Certification might help. How has it helped you? Did it help you improve your client’s health? Did it gain you any clients?
I was one of the first people certified as an ACE Lifestyle and Weight Management Coach. When I got the certification, they did not even have a textbook, just a bunch of recommended readings.
My motivation at the time was to have additional understanding on the subject. It is very difficult to assess whether it paid off or not. After all, I come as a ‘package deal’ in personal training with all the knowledge I have acquired in the field but even beyond that with interpersonal skills which I hope I possess to some degree. I never had a person ask to be coached on that alone but at least I can point to a certification to speak with derived authority. After all, most of my clients come with weight loss as one of their goals.
A lot of the knowledge I have acquired since taking the certification has come from additional reading and the IDEA conferences. At this point. I could not tell where one ends and the other begins.
Jocelyn, I feel very strongly that you will see the value of the LWMC credential if you really learn the ACE IFT Model.
When I took the LWMC exam several years ago, there was no ACE IFT Model. Now that there the ACE IFT Model, I see how that credential builds upon the knowledge acquired when one prepares for the ACE LWMC exam.
Trust me. You will see the connection if you learn the IFT model and then take the ACE LWMC exam. Then you will truly see it’s value.
Once that happens, you will have new skills upon which to attract new clients.
All the best!
I am currently reading the textbook. I figure at the very least the knowledge will benefit me. Where you are located are there many other LWMC? I figure if anything it will help me stand out as a trainer. I work in a 24 hour facility where we don’t have fitness classes, so I wanted credentials that would give me an edge with competition.
I am excited to see how it benefits me. Best of luck to you.
