How do you overcome resistance from sports councils?
It might help in forming an answer to understand where you are. However, I will make a couple of very general comments.
How are the sports council selected? Is it an elected body?
Some years ago a group of friends were chatting in my back yard and one friend complained about a local group someone had formed that were fundraising to place baskets of flowers along our main street. She thought they should raise money for something else. My response was that if she saw things she wanted done there was nothing stopping her from forming her own group and trying to make that happen. My point is that if you care to have something done it is better to do the work than complain about someone else not doing it. If these councils are elected the best response to them not doing the work is to start a campaign to put more honorable, or hard working people, or people who share your vision into the office. Perhaps stand for one of the seats yourself.
Make connections to the media as well. Media is the conduit by which the general pulic stay informed about what is happening in the community (or should be…. I admit that that view is a little quixotic these days) get to know people in the media, write press releases on work with which you have been involved, with local sources these days a non professional journalist may also have more opportunities to pitch stories themselves. If you are a good writer that may be a way to let the people know what is going on.
Form connections with others who share your ideals. The old Aesop story is true: we are much stronger together than we are alone.
Also, always come back to the knowledge that doing good in your community, regardless of who sits in the spotlight, serves and helps everyone involved. If you can know for yourself that you have done good work, have helped make things better that is a strong base on which to build any other legacy.
Get in contact with the leader’s. Attend seminars and meetings and let your voice be heard!
